Time delays and random fluctuations ("noise") are intrinsic properties of the nervous system. A fundamental question is how does the nervous system manage to rapidly and reliably perform its computations using noisy, delayed feedback control mechanisms. Moreover what are the therapeutic strategies available as therapies in situations where dynamic abnormalies, such as epileptic seizures and movements disorders , arise. Mathematical and computer studies focus on the properties of neural feedback control mechanisms, modeled as stochastic delay differential equations. Experimental projects include neural coding and spike timing reliability, pupil light refles, postural control and multistability.
